"Creating underwater content has always been my #1 passion. This is how I started my film making journey. Being able to include this type of content to our projects has given Maldavar Films an edge in the industry. Be it for documentaries, corporate content, vlogs or branded content, inserting meaningful underwater images to our stories allows us to add production value when necessary."

Founder Maldavar Films

There is something singular about the Maldavar Underwater Content Creation Course, and this is the angle taken to teach all the skills necessary when shooting and editing underwater content. Sebastien Gilbert is a film maker first, with a deep passion for underwater film making and photography. The tips and tricks shared in this course go beyond the sphere of underwater photography and videography. Film making is the art of creating visual stories with the tools at your disposal. This course is made to give you the necessary knowledge to create great content even with entry-level gear and tools. There is no denial that premium expensive cameras and underwater housings are a great help in getting professional results, but they are not a prerequisite anymore to learn all the ropes about creating stunning underwater photos and videos.

"The journey of becoming an expert underwater content creator takes years. It is a singular, non-linear process. Scuba diving or free diving, using a mirrorless camera or an action camera, learning about macrophotography or wide-angle photography, using artificial lights or natural light only, shooting corals and animals or creating lifestyle content with humans, focusing primarily on photography or videography... There are so many ways to enter the realm of underwater content creation, and every creator has a different path. The goal of this course is to give you the necessary tools to be successful, regardless of the path you are choosing."

  • Will this course be useful if I am already an experienced photographer/videographer?
Yes, if you are already a seasoned photographer and/or videographer, you will be able to apply your already acquired knowledge to shooting underwater. This course will allow you to add a specific set of skills to your arsenal. A better understanding of the steps to follow when producing underwater content, and a deep dive into the color grading process of underwater photos and videos. Besides the technical part of taking photos, we also discuss the dedicated tools/gear necessary to create underwater content, and how to make the most of each dive. This course will be a shortcut to acquire all the tips and tricks an underwater content creator takes years to figure out through trial and error. Skip the line and be efficient as soon as your next dive happens.
  • I am an experienced diver/freediver, how will this course help me create premium content?
Being an experienced diver/freediver/swimmer is probably the most important skill an underwater content creator needs to acquire. If you are already an expert in that field, then the next step will be to become a knowledgeable and skilled photographer/videographer. This course will give you the technical know-how of underwater content creation, by understanding the best settings of your camera(s) when shooting underwater, and how to make the most of them. We will review the rules to follow when taking underwater photos and/or videos in order to get stunning content. Editing is also an important part of underwater content creation. You will learn how to use industry standard editing tools, and acquire the knowledge necessary to give life to your underwater photos and videos. This course will give you all the best practices to follow so you don't have to learn them by years of trial and error taking average pictures.
  • What gears and software do I need to own in order to apply the principles taught in the course?
Camera You will need either an action camera such as Gopro, DJI Osmo Action, Insta 360 One, Olympus TG-6... or any mirroless/DSLR cameras that can fit in a housing. Housing It doesn't matter if you own a top of the line Nauticam or an entry level Meikon/SeaFrogs housing. Most of the examples shared in the course are done with an entry level housing, in order to demonstrate that you can create stunning content even if you don't own the best gears yet. Underwater content creation is a journey, from leveling up your knowledge to leveling up your gears. Editing Software In our examples we will be using Adobe Lightroom for photos, Adobe Premiere for videos, and a little bit of Adobe Photoshop for the particular topic of split composite photography. However, all the knowledge we share in this course are principles that can be applied to any editing software with similar capabilities as the Adobe software aforementioned. If you are using Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve for video editing for instance, all the elements explained in the course will be transferable to these particular software. Once you will understand what to do with your curve, white balance, contrast... it won't matter which tool you are using, you will know what to do. It's like knowing how to drive, it doesn't matter which car you are in, the necessary skills and knowledge are the same regardless.
  • Will I have a lifetime access to the course?
Yes. You will also have access to future updates and new content that will be added to the course.
  • Can I get a refund?
Due to the nature of this being a digital product and because we share the full outline and details of all the course content before purchase, we no longer offer refunds.
